Your First Braiding Visit in Gaithersburg, MD

A braiding appointment is a long one. Here is exactly how the day goes, what to do before it, and what it costs — so nothing about your first visit is a surprise.

How the day goes

  1. Book and pay the deposit

Pick your style and a date. A $30 deposit confirms the chair and comes straight off your in-salon total. You'll get a confirmation with a precise time window — braiding appointments are long, so we tell you when you'll be done, not just when to arrive.

  2. Prep your hair the day before

Wash and deep-condition about 24 hours ahead, then detangle in sections. Day-old clean hair grips better than freshly washed hair. Skip heavy oils and butters on the scalp on the day.

  3. Arrive and talk it through

We do a short consultation before anything goes in — your hairline, your density, how the last set treated you. If the style you've booked isn't right for your hair today, this is where we say so and offer something that is.

  4. Settle in

Depending on the style you're here between one and seven hours. Bring a charger, headphones, something to watch and a snack. Wear something with a wide neckline so we're not working around a collar.

  5. Aftercare, then rebook

You'll leave knowing how to wash it, how to sleep in it, and when to take it down. We'd rather see you back for a fresh set than repair a hairline that carried a style two weeks too long.

What to bring

  • Your own hair, if you've bought a specific brand
  • A phone charger — appointments run long
  • Headphones and something to watch
  • A snack and a drink
  • A top with a wide neckline

First-visit questions

How long will my first appointment take? +
It depends entirely on the style. Cornrows and men's braids run one to three hours. Twists are three to four. Box braids are four to six, and knotless braids five to seven. Your confirmation carries the exact window for what you booked.
Do I need to bring my own hair? +
Only if you want a specific brand or colour you've already bought. Otherwise we stock high-quality pre-stretched fibre on-site as an add-on — the price on the menu is for the work, and hair is quoted separately.
What does the $30 deposit cover? +
It confirms the chair and is credited to your in-salon total, so it isn't an extra cost. Free reschedule up to 48 hours before; within 48 hours the deposit is non-refundable.
Should I wash my hair before I come? +
Yes — about 24 hours before, washed and deep-conditioned, then detangled in sections. Freshly washed hair on the day is slippery and holds a braid less well.
What if I don't know which style I want? +
Book the 15-minute consultation instead of a full appointment. Bring reference photos. We'll tell you what works with your density, your length and the state of your edges before you commit to hours in the chair.
Is the studio accessible? +
Ground-level entry with a single-step threshold, and free off-street parking with the entrance on the side of the building. Tell us before booking if you need accommodations and we'll make it work.
